The Learning Management Systems (LMS) team seeks a principal system analyst / programmer to lead production support and application development related to IU’s learning management systems. Working independently, designs, implements, tests, deploys, and supports software in conjunction with instructional technology staff and collaborators to support teaching and learning objectives. Develops software, provides documentation, investigates problems, and oversees/coaches/trains other programmers in production troubleshooting.
The LMS team is primarily responsible for Oncourse, an online course environment that allows Indiana University faculty and students to create, integrate, use, and maintain Web-based teaching and learning resources. This application is to be a continuous operation/high availability service and is presently used by approximately 100,000 students and 10,000 faculty members. Additionally, members of this team also support systems a part of the Next.IU initiative.
|Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Business Systems or related discipline, plus 5 years of expert professional experience developing enterprise level applications using Java-centric software development of web based applications using technologies (IE: Java, Tomcat, Spring, SQL, Hibernate, Perl, C++, other object oriented programming languages, Oracle, MySQL or other relational databases and version control systems). Experience in resolving highly complex integration issues involving multiple technologies and business areas. A combination of education and experience may be considered on a 2:1 ratio. |
Demonstrable skill in analyzing complex problems and producing concrete, actionable solutions; specifically as it pertains to production troubleshooting. Proficiency related to creating, maintaining and supporting enterprise scale J2EE applications in Unix environment also required.
The individual must be able to work well with little supervision, and have good communication and analytical skills. A strong customer orientation and enthusiasm for new technologies are also required. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with a variety of people with varying levels of knowledge required. Ability to assume project leadership for information system projects, and work at the highest level of technical complexity. High level of accuracy, dependability and responsibility very essential.
