9347 - System Analyst/Programmer


As part of the Office of Technology (Finance and Administration), this position will primarily develop applications (reporting and otherwise), create/edit SQL queries, and create/troubleshoot SQL data feeds . Position will collaborate with staff to conduct business analysis and determine specifications.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

• Develop and maintain web and software applications and services (includes SharePoint). Design, create, update and delete web pages. Oversee text and image changes. Perform HTML, CSS and JavaScript rewrites. Perform image manipulations. Provide minor coding (ASP, PHP, ASP.NET) changes. • Design, create, update and retire web (ASP, ASP.NET, and PHP) and PC (.NET) applications i.e. www.parking.iupui.edu/my.account.do; e-commerce, user web self-service, office administrative pages, etc. Perform major coding (development) work in addition to major server changes to accommodate new systems and applications. Perform web, database and firewall configurations. Oversee schema and security/permission changes. • Develop and implement testing plans, design/usability modifications and prepare documentation. Use web analytics to optimize web pages and search results. Utilize error message database to refine web applications based on the failure rates of customers. Refine documentation of systems (public web applications, internal web applications, and desktop software.) Investigate points of failure in systems; refine codes to be more error proof and resilient. • Debug application software when problems arise; trouble shoot problems to assist technical and functional staff. Prepare documentation and training for end users. Troubleshoot and solve problems with systems; write new code or refine current code to solve problems. Complete documentation of new systems. Provide initial training on rollout of new applications. This includes servers, websites, databases, and enterprise office application systems. Conduct business analysis and determine specifications. Gather system specifications. Stay in contact with management to ensure projects meet all business rules. Foresee and navigate problems with management’s expectations/desires related to technological, time or security constraints. Set priorities, establish timelines and implement quality control procedures. Set guides and standards for web projects to include usability, security, processing times, etc. • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 
Required: Bachelor’s degree in informatics, computer science, or related discipline from an accredited institution and 3 years of experience in system design, application development and programming. An equivalent combination of experience and education at a 2:1 ratio may be considered.

Preferred: Five years of experience; experience working in higher education or comparable environment; knowledge of SQL, and experience managing large online applications and content management systems.

Candidate should have strong technical problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, enthusiasm for working in a team-oriented environment, and the ability to learn new business processes and database frameworks quickly.
