9003 - Collection/Account Clerk


The Collection / Accounting Clerk position works within the Pathology billing group supporting the collection of funds related to medical billings. This position will work independently by posting adjustments from insurance explanation of benefits, processing denials, posting charges, and filing secondary insurance claims. Regular contact with insurance companies will include research regarding unpaid balances as well as verification of insurance coverage. The incumbent will work regularly with patients to assist with billing questions, set up payment arrangements, verify insurance and demographic information, and update registrations.

Additional Duties Include: • Maintaining an organized filing system, in accordance with departmental policy, for all pathology documents. • Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance. • Data entry • Mail related duties including sorting and preparing correspondence • Filing • Other general office duties as assigned

• Knowledge of various software application systems including , Cerner, MS Word, RICS and Citrix, MS Excel, MS Access, MS Outlook preferred

• Experience in patient accounting or related third party billing/collection with in-depth knowledge of specific third party requirements

• Knowledge of all payer mixes; knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid regulations and billing requirements

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work independently and to handle multiple tasks

• Strong customer service skills

• Ability to type a minimum of 40 WPM

• Ability to file in numeric order

• Good organization skills

• Good attention to detail

• Good time management skills

• Ability to work independently

• Ability to lift 10 pounds

• Ability to sit for extended periods of time

 
Required: High School diploma or equivalent plus 6-12 months experience in medical billing. Experience with IDX required.
