7720 - Slavic Cataloger, Libraries
|Job Summary: Completes original and copy cataloging of monographs in Slavic and East European languages, including the assignment and evaluation of subject headings, call numbers, and personal, corporate, conference, and series headings; determines appropriate bibliographic descriptions such as title, publication information, edition, explanatory notes, etc.; and inputs Cyrillic script fields for titles in Cyrillic script languages. Completes Name Authority Cooperative Project (NACO) authority records for personal, corporate, conference, and series headings to be added to OCLC and other national databases; edits existing NACO authority records; and creates/evaluates vernacular script fields in the OCLC database. Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and may be called upon to dismiss hourly student staff. |

REQUIRED: Two years of college level coursework and one year of relevant library experience.
Thorough knowledge of the Russian language; knowledge of cataloging procedures; and demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve monographic cataloging situations. Experience with MS Office Suite and library-specific databases; knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment; and ability to assume responsibility and function under minimal supervision. Strong sense of initiative; demonstrated dependability and flexibility; ability to process complex, detailed work with accuracy; and demonstrated problem solving and decision making abilities. Strong planning and organization skills; outstanding interpersonal skills; and excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred: Two years of college level coursework in Russian literature, history, political science, or culture; one year of experience with cataloging or monographs; and functional knowledge of AACR2 (Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd Edition), RDA (Resources Description and Access), Library of Congress Subject Headings and Classification Schedules.
