11027 - Broadcast Video Technician, Radio and Television Services


Job Summary: Participates in a variety of standard broadcast and closed-circuit operations including: set up, operation and maintenance of electronic, mechanical and optical equipment in the origination, transmission, reception, and recording of audio and video signals. Primary duties focus on: video engineering of live multi-camera broadcasts and recorded productions; remote field production and post-productions; and instructional and studio productions.

Installs and performs routine and corrective maintenance on broadcast video and audio systems. Operates multi-camera setup and other video and audio equipment for television and radio production and post-production; and serves as video technician in charge of all the camera iris control and overall look of camera video. Monitors high-end multi-camera production and optimizes video levels for “live” production including high visibility sporting events and close-circuit campus events.

Serves as Video Technician engineer in Electronic Field Productions (EFP) assignments and assists the producer, director, and audio engineer as needed. Collaborates with producers and directors in establishing camera video needs for specific television productions; set’s up camera “shade” for optimizing the color and unifying all cameras as determined by production needs; and ensures proper application and characteristics, and resolves issues that may arise with cameras, cable length and intercom. Performs routine and corrective maintenance on video camera equipment used in radio, news and television studios and remote productions; and participates in the planning, evaluation, and selection of video equipment for Radio-TV Services, Telecommunications, and other departments as needed.

Designs, installs, documents, and performs initial set up and check out of camera and intercom equipment and modifies equipment to improve performance as needed. Serves as Television Master Control (TMC) and operates, monitors, and adjusts transmitters and transmitter remote control systems to comply with FCC Rules and Regulations. Makes entries on broadcast station log to fulfill FCC requirements; and provides multi-camera video “shading” training to other staff and hourly as needed.

REQUIRED: Associates degree and one year of experience in broadcast operations.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.

Preferred: Experience in video field production and multi-camera operations; SBE CBT (Society of Broadcast Engineers Certified Broadcast Technologist) level or equivalent.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, support staff position, eligible for overtime and all full-time IU staff benefits. More information may be found here.

The salary range is $30,368 - $34,000, depending on the extent of relevant experience.
